How to Use Garage Storage Systems

Is your garage a total mess and you can't even park your car in there?

You may be in desperate need of some garage storage systems so you can take back your garage and your car will finally have a home. But you don't want to just slap some shelves up on the walls if you want a really organized garage there is more to it than that.

Here are some steps you can take to really get the most out of your storage system.
Difficulty: EasyInstructions
Step 1First, you need to put like items together. This means you need to store used or similar items all together in the same space or area.

Put all the lawn equipment in one place and all the sports equipment in another place and then all the seasonal items in another place. This way you know where everything goes and you will have easy access to all your items.

Step 2With any of the garage storage systems you will want to place your belongings according to where they're used first to last.

This may sound confusing, but it really isn't. Say the kids are always riding their bikes. Then you would install a bike rack by the garage door and not at the back of the garage.

Now the kids can go right in the door and put their bikes away instead of having to go all the way to the back of the garage to put them away. This way, they will be more likely to put their bikes away.

Step 3Place all your most used items in a space that is between your knees and your shoulders.

For example, say you ride your bike every day, you wouldn't want your bike mounted way up high near the ceiling so that you have to work hard every day just to get it. But, if you rarely ever use your bike, then this might be a great place.

Step 4Most garage storage systems use a lot of storage containers just be sure each is labeled. This is your key component to an organized garage.

Using the clear containers work really well because at a glance you can see what is inside. I also have been known to write out a list of everything that is in the container and placing that list where I can see it.
